Doomguy holding Daisy's head at the end of Thy Flesh Consumed.
Daisy in Action Doom.
Daisy on the Inferno end screen.
Daisy was Doomguy's pet rabbit.
Background
In the classic Doom, the rabbit's head is shown in the end picture of Episode 3: Inferno, first in a docile setting, resting in a sunny field, then in an instant turnaround, decapitated and her head impaled on a pike as evidence that the hellspawn have come to Earth. The rabbit is not specifically identified as Doomguy's pet at this time.
In the end picture of Episode 4: Thy Flesh Consumed, the rabbit's head reappears in a grieving Doomguy's hand. It is here that the game mentions "someone was gonna pay for what happened to Daisy, your pet rabbit".
Daisy is the main reason why the Marine continues to fight demons since Episode 4: Thy Flesh Consumed[citation needed], as the ending screen depicted him holding the rabbit's head, making Episode 4 (and the continuing story) a mission of revenge, and is not totally focused on stopping the invasion of demons. Nothing is really known about Daisy, or how she came to be with Doomguy, as well as her past with Doomguy or her meaning or purpose in the game other than just a cinematic ending. However, many theories have come and gone over the years, many having to do with the shot of the bunny's decapitated head. Daisy is more or less a mere ending for the Doom series and most likely means nothing in general.
Other appearances
- The Doom Bible notes that Dacote stands for Dies at conclusion of this episode, and correspondingly Doomguy in the finished game seems to die or to be close to dying at the very end of Doom's first episode, Knee Deep in the Dead, as a result of the final ambush in the dark room after taking the anomaly's demonic teleporter. Where as in the bible's lore Buddy was the protagonists friend/buddy who is torn in two/quartered, Daisy mirrors this as the protagonists friend, who is eviscerated at the end of Episode 3, and becomes the source of Doomguy's continued rage...
- Technically the two bunnies in the ending of Episode 3 are slightly different. The docile one in field has red eyes, and solid brown colored ears. While the head of the rabbit which is panned to has black eyes, and black tipped ears. The head of Daisy as she appears on the end screen of Episode 4, has black eyes with golden/brown sclera. If the game is played with a wide screen (both living and dead bunny can be seen on the screen at the same time, with the panning only panning over to the burning city to the left.).
- A poster on a wall in one of the Doom (2016) multiplayer levels shows an image asking for missing Daisy and offering a reward. The phone number is the original release date of Doom.
- In Quake Champions, Doom Slayer's bio says he is still angry for having lost Daisy, and carried around his rabbit's foot.
- Daisy can be found hidden throughout every chapter of Doom Eternal. It is speculated that Doom slayer is hallucinating his pet rabbit, still unable to get over his loss.
- Daisy also appears in Action Doom in the final level. She is animated, and runs around Doomguy's house.
- She also appears as a cheat skin of past versions of Skulltag.[citation needed]
- Daisy (or rather the second bunny from the Episode 1 ending sequence) can also be seen alive on the start-up screen of the Doom95 port.
- A promotional image for Doom Eternal released on June 9th, 2019 includes a rabbit hidden amongst the crowd of demons surrounding the Doom Slayer, lending further credence to the idea that Daisy would appear somehow in Doom: Eternal. Daisy does indeed make a cameo appearance in the Doom Slayer's room on the Fortress of Doom, being held gently in his hand in a painting.[1][2] Also in the Fortress of Doom is a book called My Best Friend, Daisy, presumably written by the Slayer himself.
- In Doom Eternal, the album for the Wolfenstein 3D track "Wondering About My Loved Ones" has Daisy in the cover.
- In Doom: Annihilation, Daisy makes an appearance as an AI. She is eventually revealed to be evil (like HAL).
- In Mighty Doom, Daisy makes an appearance in the loading screen on Doomguy's shoulder.
- The Doom: The Dark Ages Limited Edition Xbox Controller features a drawing of Daisy on the Barrett cover.
