Sigil II is the unofficial sixth episode of The Ultimate Doom and sequel to Sigil and the second part of the trilogy. It is the prequel to Hellion for Doom II.

It is downloadable as an add-on or mod for Doom I Enhanced, Doom II Enhanced and later added to the main menu to Doom I + Doom II.

Background

SIGIL II is the unofficial sixth episode for 1993’s DOOM®.[1]

A followup to 2019's SIGIL, SIGIL II is the direct follow-up created by id co-founder John Romero. Released for the 30th anniversary of DOOM, SIGIL II brings another episode of nine maps to the original DOOM. A sequel in more than just name, SIGIL II also carries on many of the unique elements introduced by the original SIGIL, such as shooting switches around the hazardous environment in order to progress. The design and style feels like an upgraded SIGIL, with Romero having fully back into his stride in creating DOOM gameplay.

The sequel is harder, and meaner, this time around, with a Cyberdemon on every level when playing at higher difficulties. The environment itself is also nastier, with seas of lava precariously hanging beneath small arenas, and enemies spawning behind you, giving you little safe options for taking on fights. Retreating after entering a new room is not always a safe option! SIGIL II includes music by James Paddock, cover art by Christopher Lovell, logo by Sara Mena, produced by Brenda Romero, social by Maezza Romero, and technical testers Flambeau, UberGewei, Keyboard_doomer, dew, AF-Domains, and Xaser.

In this direct sequel to SIGIL, Satan has cast you straight into the depths of Hell. Fighting your way out will be the toughest battle you've ever faced. Hell's hordes are raining down upon you, trying to crush your very soul into oblivion. They know you are deep within their domain, but time and time again, they underestimate your power. You must not let them succeed. Released for DOOM's 30th anniversary, SIGIL II builds on the tight and vicious fights of the original. No corner is safe, and ambushes are likely to appear anywhere you try and take a breath. Conservation of ammo and health continues to be important, as survival teeters on the edge of a blade. John Romero's second modern DOOM episode builds upon design concepts from the first episode, continuing the concept of shooting switches to advance forward, and opening new areas with new demons to slaughter. SIGIL II expands its environments to explore, taking players through hellish mountains, outdoor areas, and even some human structures.

Hello, and welcome to SIGIL II, the unofficial episode 6 mod...SIGIL II is a 30th anniversary celebration of the 1993 DOOM release. It was designed to fit the design patterns and look of the original DOOM. I did not want to deviate from the original much so this unofficial episode six uses the original texture set for the levels, and adds a new sky like SIGIL did (episode 5).[2]

Sigil II, was added to the main menu of Doom + Doom II in a later April 2025 update (previously only appearing in the featured mods section) it is located after Sigil, and Legacy of Rust in the menu. While there is no marketing summary for it, there is a short explanation in the Doom + Doom II Update 3 release notes:

SIGIL II
SIGIL II is now officially included as part of the DOOM + DOOM II package. It is available from the game select menu at startup. Note: Save games from the Mods version are not compatible with the officially included version. However, the existing Mods version will remain online to users subscribed to it.
