Cosmic Baron with heavy chest damage
The Cosmic Baron is a new enemy in DOOM: The Dark Ages.
Description
Crafted through forbidden gene-splicing, its monstrous form embodies the Barons of Hell, a grotesque testament to the unholy fusion of their realms. It is described that some monsters called molusc synthethist made this abomination.
Combat Characteristics
Unlike the Barons from previous entries, this version of the Baron species focuses mostly on rushing down the player with relentless swipes to destroy their Health & Armor. First encountered in the beginning of Mission 15: City of Ry'uul, the Cosmic Baron will rush towards the nearest player at a speed that is similar to one sprinting. Usually when it is close enough, it will first initiate the ground-pound seen in the 2 previous entries, in order to close the gap - this can be parried and results in a stun, leaving it open for melee combos. Afterwards it'll continue it's pursuit by rushing at the player to swipe them 3 times, or more if they missed a parry. These swipes, when parried at least 3 times in a row, will stun the brute and afterwards it'll then jump away to unleash either of 2 attacks, or both - 5 low discs, one of them which is parriable and a blade-wall, one of which is green and being parriable. This ranged attack can also happen after the ground-pound. Like the Dread Knights from DOOM Eternal they also have another version of the ground-pound attack without jumping, which is triggered randomly when close. Obviously, parrying this attack will stun the brute.
Strategy
Despite being one of the more threatening deadlier late-game demons, the strategy is very simple, however you need the Reaver Chainshot's first upgrade. After every parry, shoot the gun and repeat. This also applies to the Impaler and the Rocket Launcher, because one of their upgrades makes it so that every parry empowers the next shot, so as soon as you hit a parry with either of those weapons you want to shoot right after, then parry and repeat. If the brute is stunned after 3 parried slashes or one parried ground-pound, go in for melee attacks as these can deal lots of damage, mainly the Power Gauntlet and Dreadmace. Because of the new update, it is highly recommended you always parry the ranged attacks as missing one will instantly destroy your shield, because of the new damage buff.
